Salad

Just an update on salad seeds that i got from facebook Kebun Bandar. I never thought that i would grow salad, it felt strange to consume them home-grown as i am used to having salad straight from the supermarket plastic containers, so i didn't :) Aside to that we got ourselves two hens, my dad's caregiver brought it all the way from her hometown to our home. And the hens would peck on all my tiny salads and chives.. hmmm..

On seedlings tray.. they were one of the earliest to grow

I wasn't sure how many of them would survive the hot weather, so into a single pot they all went!

Looking good after few weeks... i didn't use any fertilizer, just rice water at times.

As mentioned i didn't really get to enjoy the salad. I was away most of the time and the hens pecked and scratched half of the pot content anyway.. Before long, the remaining salad plants grew taller and produces flowers. To be honest i wasn't expecting any survivors in this hot weather :D So i decided to wait for the flowers to dry and later on plant a whole new batch, this time to be eaten hehe..

Aren't they pretty :) i believe at this stage the leaves would taste bitter (didn't get to try)

After a month - the flowers have dried now... and wow there's so many of them..

Salad seeds :) back to the beginning...

Ulam Raja reboot

Things have been busy at home lately. As we're trying to balance the time between taking turns to stay at the hospital with our father who's having treatment for his feet, and the kids whom all were having final year exams, and of course on top of that our day job. We were also experiencing a few weeks of hot weather in October that the soil in the pots got dried up very quickly (read news here) :|  it was scorching hot no joke i would get headache just by going outside.. With that i decided not to sow any new seeds until weather is good again. But hey the Ulam Raja seedlings manage to grow somehow..

Hey there tiny ulams :)

Ulam Raja Salad

Around April, I tried growing the Ulam Raja salad from seeds while planning to give away the seedling in tiny pots in time for Teacher's Day tokens. But yeah, it didn't happen as I had to travel and didn't have enough time to prepare :) Nevertheless the tiny pots didn't go to waste as we gave them to family members, and keep some for the house although none of us know how to eat those leaves heeeee...

I absolutely enjoy watching the plants we had grown from seeds. For this one, unfortunately the seedling pictures were nowhere to be found.. so I'll upload them later once the new batch of seeds had grown. All of my Ulam Raja seeds came from facebook's Kebun Bandar group members. Can't wait for my turn to share some from my little garden too.. *excited*

2 months old
After 3 months, they just grown taller day by day

Excited seeing Ulam Raja's flower for the first time!

The leaves had fallen now after 6 months...

The leaves had fallen and new batch of seeds are showing, with some already fell to the ground. I had re-planted the seeds now, hopefully we're able to witness and capture another cycle in pictures! and maybe start eating these beneficial herbs :)

Although I did took pictures on the potted plants and sprouts, heaps of them! Just need to find some time to share those here. Some of them have wilted due to hot weather following last rainy season.. some went to the aquarium biz that my hubby runs. Cant wait to share the progress in my next post.. til next time :)

Tomato - Two months into rainy season...

The tomato sprouts well during this rainy season, much the same like all other plants in my garden. Their stems are still very soft though, so probably still a long way to go... I will keep updating this space for any progress. And I still haven't found the tomato heirloom seeds I was looking for, these are the ones I planted from seeds earlier.

Roselle Update - 2 months after being moved to garden bed...

I woke up one morning and saw one of the Roselle plant actually had a broken stem, and the shoots fell flat. I wasn't sure what caused the stem to break and fell, but I am pretty convinced there's some tiny hands involved :)

So that happened...
That aside, the other surviving Roselle now has hardened stem and more branches sprung out. I still haven't decided what to do with all the flowers, so til next update...

Pumpkin

We had a few pumpkin sprouts in a tray that were growing so well. After a month I started moving them to our garden bed, surrounding Roselle plant in  a circle. Not long after, the pumpkin vines started crawling out in the garden big space and even into the drain! *which vines I had pulled out back on to the ground*. Excited and can't wait to see how these turn out :D
